graphic design is my current choice of major.
i am considering minoring in art history & business
typing only in lowercase letters is fun and i support it fully.

I wasn't sure where to post this but here you go!

Critique

Overall, what I take from this guide is that you are trying to get the reader to notice our campus in a way they wouldn’t normally, or notice elements or small pieces that don’t usually catch your eye. While I think it is a great idea I’m not sure it was completely executed. It felt a bit like a scavenger hunt to take pictures, but the pictures were of things that aren’t out of the ordinary or not usually noticed. Also, with a few exceptions I generally didn’t feel like I was interacting or really thinking about things differently. Maybe if you sent us to places that were normal but had us do something completely un-normal in that space or look for things that nobody ever has to look for or to watch how behavior changes from environment to environment.
I really loved the tone of your guide, it was humorous and very friendly. Some small comments on specific areas include page 5 in the library. It really felt very rude to take pictures of the people studying, especially in such a quite place where there is no way to hide the fact that you are taking a picture. Also the choosing traveling by inside or outside part and how to go from there was VERY confusing. The page numbers were wrong and also maybe a flowchart would be helpful or even just having things on the same page. I don’t all of the page breaks are necessary. It makes for a lot of bulk. For the Churchill hall part, the dining hall is only open Monday through Friday 7-2, which can be an issue. Page 13 was confusing to tell whether we should actually make a composition or just find one that was already there.
Overall I love the direction your tone has and the general idea for it. I think there is a lot of potential and look forward to seeing how it ends up!

I liked the fact that your group wanted us to explore the campus and interact with it. It is a great intention to have people stay local to the places that they are most familiar, and yet try to look at them with new and open eyes. As Emily said, the tone of the guide was humorous and friendly. The activities I liked the most were the ones inside ryder hall, especially the fly swatters exercise. I felt like I was discovering new and unchartered territory inside of the hall where I spend most of my time. The guide lost some steam towards the middle, in part because the guide was confusing and pages needed to be read in various orders. A few of the tasks did challenge the way I would interact with people and places, such as having to decide whether or not to ask someone to pose for a picture in the library while they were doing their homework.
My main concern for this guide is that for the majority of the time, I did not feel that I was being led through a series of interesting and new interactions. I felt that I was being asked to find objects and photograph them, which does not really alter my ways of thinking. My advice would be to rethink the activities that the guide requires, and edit out anything that is not a guide to an interaction with the campus itself. Also take into consideration that depending on the time of day this guide is completed, not all of the places on it are open. Good luck with the final draft!
